Regulatory awareness

The use of financial data or technology does not, by itself, establish permission to conduct regulated financial activities. The actual work, parties and jurisdictions must be considered when defining an engagement.

Where a request could involve a regulated activity, the relevant permissions and the role of an appropriately authorised provider must be established before that work is undertaken. This website makes no claim of regulatory authorisation or endorsement.

Understanding the client and the engagement

Before work begins, the engagement should establish the contracting entity, its business activities, the authority of its representative and the intended use of the deliverables. The extent of identity verification or other due diligence depends on the proposed service and applicable requirements.

Data privacy and confidentiality

Only information necessary for an agreed purpose should be requested. Before exchanging business records, the parties should confirm who may access them, the approved transfer method, confidentiality obligations, retention and deletion arrangements, and any restrictions on third-party processing. Website enquiry behaviour is explained separately in the Privacy Policy.

Information security

Security requirements should reflect the sensitivity of the information and the systems involved. Access responsibilities, permissions, testing boundaries and incident contacts need to be agreed for each project. Project-specific safeguards, access arrangements and responsibilities should be confirmed before sensitive information is shared.

Business and delivery risk

An engagement should identify dependencies such as source-data quality, system access, third-party availability and the client's review capacity. A written scope should assign responsibilities, acceptance criteria, change approvals and escalation points. Analysis can inform management decisions, but assumptions, limitations and remaining risks still require review by the client.

Service limitations

The services presented here do not include accepting deposits, holding client money, executing payments or securities transactions, or managing investment portfolios. Financial information research and technology support are not personal investment recommendations.

Any need for regulated financial services, statutory audit, legal advice or specialist tax advice should be addressed with an appropriately qualified or authorised provider under a separate arrangement.
